Conservation issues come to life
when you see, touch, and hold the animals that are endangered
and threatened as a result of how humans have affected
their environments.
Did You Know:
Today approximately four species
of plant or animal life become extinct every hour, and
millions of endangered and threatened plants and animals
could become extinct during your lifetime. Often this
occurs when the delicate balance of their habitat is
disrupted.
Several endangered and threatened animals include:
Arctic Polar Bear
Bald Eagle
Beluga Whale
Bengal Tiger
Black Bear
Blue Heron
Elephant
Florida Panther
Sea Turtle
Manatee

The
Dodo bird lived on the Mauritius Islands, was
large, slow, couldnt fly, and had no natural
enemies. This made the Dodo easy prey for explorers
and dogs that came to the island. By 1680, the
Dodo was extinct. |
The
Tasmanian Tiger of Australia was a marsupial,
carrying its young in a pouch. European settlers
began hunting it in the 1700s and by 1936,
it was extinct. |
Congress
passes the Endangered Species Act to help save
species facing the risk of extinction. |
